A 13 year old Brooklyn student suffered serious personal injury after being struck by a NYPD School Safety Van

A young pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident during which he was struck and trapped under a NYPD School Safety Van which was traveling south on Coney Island Ave. The driver, a school safety agent, swerved to avoid a car which was making a left turn Northbound and hit a 13 year old boy near 18th Ave in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, NY. His backpack got caught on the bumper of the Police van and he was dragged under the vehicle. He couldn’t move. A truck driver who witnessed the scene ran to the rescue and used his tow to lift the van and extract the boy, most probably saving his life. The boy is at the hospital in stable condition.
