Two Workers Injured After Conveyor Belt Accident at Recycling Facility in Oceanside, NY

Two men were injured Monday morning when an industrial conveyor belt collapsed at Earth Tech Recycling in Oceanside, Long Island. Emergency responders from Nassau County rescued both victims, ages 62 and 68, after they became trapped beneath the heavy machinery.

The 62-year-old sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by the Oceanside Fire Department to a nearby hospital. The 68-year-old man suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for emergency treatment.

Industrial Accidents and Personal Injury Law

Incidents involving heavy machinery — such as conveyor belts, forklifts, or cranes — often cause devastating injuries. These accidents may result from mechanical defects, inadequate maintenance, or unsafe workplace practices. In New York, victims of workplace accidents may have multiple legal remedies:

  • Workers’ Compensation covers medical expenses and partial wage replacement.
  • Personal Injury Lawsuits may be available if negligence by a third party, defective equipment, or unsafe premises caused the harm.
  • Product Liability Claims can arise when a dangerous or defective machine contributes to an accident.

As New York personal injury lawyers, we investigate every possible avenue to ensure injured workers and their families obtain the maximum compensation they are entitled to receive.

Protecting the Rights of the Injured

Accidents like the one in Oceanside serve as a reminder that safety must be a top priority in all industrial settings. When companies cut corners on training, inspections, or equipment upkeep, workers face the consequences. Victims may be left with not only physical injuries, but also financial burdens and long-term disability.
