Joseph Rosa had just married his wife Karina Stepanova in a Russian Orthodox Church. Installing and repairing elevators is a dangerous job and multiple fatalities and serious injuries are reported nationwide every year. In New York, too many workers have died while repairing elevators because they were lacking the proper training or because the elevators were defective or unsafe.
New law to improve elevator workers safety in NY
Despite being one of the places in the world that has the highest density of elevators, New York laws to protect workers from accidents are weak. This is about to improve with a new law that was signed by NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to improve elevator safety at the beginning of this year . The new law will insure that all individuals working with elevators receive proper training and credentials. All individuals involved with elevator installation, repair, maintenance, construction and design in NY State will be required to to be proprely trained and licensed. While the bill was signed by Cuomo at the beginning of this year it will not be implemented before 2022. (read more in the New York Post)
