3 pedestrians dead and 2 injured in NYC traffic accidents over the weekend

3 pedestrians died and two other were injured after being hit by motor vehicles in New York City over the weekend. Another pedestrian also died from injuries he sustained earlier in the month last Thursday.

The police are still looking for the reckless speeding hit and run driver who killed a pedestrian in Bensonhurst on Sunday morning around 7:25 am

26 year old Jose Contla was standing next to his vehicle parked on 19th Avenue near 86th Street when a driver hit him and took off. He was on his way to open the family bakery where he was working part time to pay for his degree in criminal justice at John Jay College.  Contla fell on the ground and was found unconscious on the road by the EMTs. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. The police are still looking for the driver of a black sedan (see picture).

A pedestrian was critically injured on Lorin Avenue in East New York early Sunday morning around 1:00 am. He was rushed to the hospital. The driver stayed at the scene of the accident.

Pedestrian killed by cab driver in Elmhurst, Queens

Another pedestrian was fatally struck by a cab driver in Queens on Saturday morning around 11:00 am. 66 year old Masae Takeda was crossing 57th Avenue in Elmhurst, when she was fatally struck by a cab driver who was making a turn onto 57th street from Van Horn Street. The driver was suspended by the TLC. (Read more in Street Blog)

Female pedestrian fatally struck by electrical scooter

On Friday February 21st a woman was seriously injured after she was hit a car on Canal street at the intersection of Cortland Ave and another pedestrian died in East Harlem after being struck by a Z6 electric scooter. 60 year old Annette Camaya was crossing the street at the intersection of 118th Street and Pleasant Ave when a 34 year old man on an electrical scooter struck her. She suffered multiple trauma to her head and body and was rushed to the hospital where she died. The Z6 scooter looks more like a motorcycle than a scooter. It can reach a speed of 50 mph and weighs more than 300 pounds. The driver was also sent to the hospital to be examined. He was then released.

On Thursday, 84 year old Rosvelt Bynum also died from injuries he sustained after he was struck by a truck while crossing the intersection of West 125th Street and Lenox Ave on February 10.
