The pedestrian carnage continues in New York City

One pedestrian died and two were seriously injured in New York City last week. In all cases, drivers were recklessly driving and in two cases drivers took off after the accident leaving their victims lying on the street.

The first accident occurred on Tuesday in the Bronx. 72 year old Sidney Sale was walking back home after stopping at his local Bodega. As he was crossing the intersection of East 211th  Street and Paulding Avenue in Williamsbridge in the Bronx he was struck by a car. The pedestrian who was in the crosswalk, fell on the ground. The reckless driver did not stop and fled on East 211th Street.  Immediately after, another driver making a left turn onto East 211th Street from Pauling hit the victim for the second time and dragged him along the street. The second driver stayed at the scene of the accident. Sydney Sale suffered trauma all over his body and was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Last Thursday morning, a man crossing the street near his house was struck by a speeding diver who recklessly backed up on the residential street, struck the pedestrian and took off. The accident occurred near the intersection of Nichols Ave and Etna Street. Around 9:30am, Walter Stone stepped out of his house in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn, and crossed the street to access his car when he was hit by a car recklessly backing up the street at full speed. A surveillance video shows  a black car speeding down the street and suddenly backing up at high speed, hitting the pedestrian and then taking off.  The pedestrian who suffered multiple injuries, including a broken leg, started to scream while crawling toward his house. His wife heard him and ran out of the house to help. The 60 year old man was rushed to the hospital to be treated.

A third pedestrian suffered gruesome injuries after she was hit by a pick up truck in Brooklyn as well. The accident occurred on Sunday morning a little bit before noon in Greenpoint, just across from the McCarren Park at the intersection of Lorimer Street and Nassau Ave. The woman who is often selling items on the street in the area was standing by the side of the road near a large stone rock. She was putting something on the stone and was turning her back to the street when she was pinned between the pick up truck and the rock. Her legs were badly mangled and she was screaming in agony while profusely bleeding. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The driver was arrested for drug paraphernalia possession and the police were expecting to get a blood sample to test him for drugs.  Read more in the NY Daily News
