Two men died and a third one suffered critical personal injury in a car accident that happened last Friday on the Bronx River Parkway in New York around 4:00 am. According to witnesses, the victims were in a blue Mini Cooper and seemed to be racing another car when the 20 year old driver, Xavier Rodriguez, lost control of the vehicle. The car hit a tree and and was sheared in two before bursting into flames. The driver and the front seat passenger were ejected from the car. They were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The driver later died of his injuries. A third passenger, 24 year old Bill Bido, who was in the back seat was badly burned and died at the scene of the crash.

13 projects to prevent pedestrian and bicycle accidents in New York City are going to be funded by a $25 million federal grant secured by Senator Schumer. Previous Vision Zero Crash analysis and input from communities were used to select the13 project locations. Projects will include an extension of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway; street safety improvements near schools in Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island; and pedestrian safety measures along dangerous corridors like Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park.
