According to reports, FDNY crews responded to intense flames shooting from beneath the roadway. Firefighters detected carbon monoxide levels reaching 1,000 parts per million — a concentration that can quickly become life-threatening. Residents described seeing smoke rolling under parked cars before flames burst from the underground vault.
Two individuals were transported to Woodhull Medical Center for evaluation. Utility crews from Con Edison and National Grid responded, opening manholes, isolating gas lines, and shutting down utilities to prevent further danger.
