A scooter user, 3 pedestrians killed and one critically injured in NYC car accidents in less than a week

The number of pedestrian fatalities in New York City which had significantly decreased during the coronavirus lock-down peaked back up as soon as the city started to reopen.

Yesterday night around 9:30 pm a 50 year old man who was crossing the street at the intersection of Beach Avenue and Mansion Street in Parkchester was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver.  The man was rushed to the hospital but he could not be saved.

The Police are still looking for the driver who recklessly killed the pedestrian and sped away behind the wheel of a SUV. According to the police the driver was chasing another car when the accident occured.

In Queens, a mother who was delivering food for a charity was critically injured after she was pinned against the back of her car by a drunk driver. 35 year old Nancy Tituana had just parked her car and was picking up food in the truck when Luis Encanada who was drunk pinned her between the back of her car and the front of his sedan. The police who arrested him found an open can of Coors Light in the cupholder. Encalada who was driving without a license, had 0.254% of alcohol in his blood. That is 3 times the legal level of 0.08%.  He was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault. Tituana was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Her legs were pinned to the back of her car. Tituana, a mother of 3, lost her job during the covid-19 crisis and started a charity to deliver food to people in need.

Earlier during the day, around 3:55 am a pedestrian who was crossing Rockaway Boulevard near Brookville Boulevard in Queens, was fatally hit by a car. The driver stayed at the scene of the accident and wasn’t charged.

In a previous blog we wrote about another pedestrian who was killed by a car driver who lost control of her vehicle and jumped the curb on Crossway Bay Boulevard.

Early Tuesday morning a man on a razor scooter was fatally struck by an out of control SUV driver in Canarise, Brooklyn.

Car drivers who were alone in the streets for the last few months need to realize the lockdown is over and pedestrians are back in the streets.
