Product Liability: FDA warns of a dangerous rising trend of Hidden Drug Ingredients in dietary supplements

Products%20with%20hidden%20drug%20ingredients%20Dr%20Mao.jpg Hidden Drugs or Chemicals in dietary supplements or conventional food can cause severe personal injury and sometimes lead to death. According to the FDA, some products promoting sexual enhancement, weight loss, or bodybuilding and advertised as “all natural” may contain dangerous drugs or chemicals that have been previously removed from the market for safety reason.

For example, The FDA announced recently that Sibutramine was found in several weight loss products. These products go by the name of “Dr. Mao Slimming Capsules”, “Be Inspired”, “Perfect Body Solutions” and “Burn 7”, “Bella Vi Insane Amp’d” and “Bella Vi Amp’d Up”

Sibutramine is a controlled substance that was removed from the market in 2010 because it can increase blood pressure and/or pulse rate in some patients. Sibutramine can present a significant risk for patients with a history of coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, or stroke. Sibutramine can also interact in life-threatening ways with other medications.

Product Liability: Fresh Green and Red Bell Peppers recalled due to Salmonella risk

Red%20and%20Grenn%20Bell%20Peppers.jpg Orange County produce is recalling three lots containing 1,208 cartons of 25 peppers. They were distributed to farmer’s markets and wholesale food service in Southern California between September 21st and 24th. The bell pepper are being recalled after a random sample of OC Produce Bell Peppers tested positive for Salmonella.

Product Liability: APC SurgeArrest surge protectors Schneider Electric recalled due to Fire Hazard

The defective products are being recalled because they can overheat, smoke and melt, posing a fire hazard. The firm has received 700 reports of the surge protectors overheating and melting and 55 claims of property damage from smoke and fire, including $916,000 in fire damage to a home and $750,000 in fire damage to a medical facility. There are 13 reports of peronal injuries, including smoke inhalation and contact burns from touching the overheated surge protectors.

Products recalled are APC 7 and 8 series SurgeArrest surge protectors manufactured by American Power Conversion (APC), now known as Schneider Electric IT Corp., of West Kingston, R.I. and sold at Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, and other stores nationwide from January 1993 through December 2002 for between $13 and $50.

Consumers who bought this product should stop to use it immediately and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.

Product Liability: Continuous reports of wrongful death from accidental exposure to fentanyl patches prompt the FDA to require manufacturers to print the name and strength of the drug on the patch in long-lasting ink, in a clearly visible color

The FDA has received several reports of wrongful death, including two children since April 2012 when it warned the public about the danger of accidental exposure to fentanyl patches. For this reason, manufacturers are now required to use a more visible ink to print the name and the strength of the drug on the patches.

Exposure to fentanyl patches can cause serious injury and death to children, pets and others.

Accidental exposure may happen if a used patch is not disposed of properly or if a patch accidentally falls from a patients skin.

Product Liability – Defective Saw: TS 55 REQ Plunge Cut Circular Saw from Festool recalled due to laceration hazard

Festool is recalling defective Plunge Cut Circular Saws. The recall affects 5200 models sold in the us and 500 modeles sold in Canada. The plunge lock can engage when not intended, causing the saw blade to remain exposed from the housing following completion of the plunge cut and posing a laceration hazard.

Product Liability: to prevent Wrongful Death and Personal Injury to Children, the Consumer Product Safety Commission approves New Safety Standards for Bassinets and Cradles

426 personal injury incidents including 132 wrongful deaths related to bassinets and cradles have been reported to the CPSC between November 2007 and March 2013. Therefore the CPSC has approved a new federal mandatory standard to improve the safety of bassinets and cradles.

To create the new mandatory standard, the CSPC incorporated 5 modifications to the actual voluntary standard (ASTM F2194-13) Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Bassinets and Cradles. These modification are:

Product Liability: Big Blue Fisheries from Alaska recalls all smoked products due to a risk of botulism contamination

Big%20Blue%20Fisheries.jpg Clostridium botulinum is a bacterium which can cause life-threatening illness or death. This bacterium may be present in any of the smoked products sold by the Alaskan Firm Big Blure Fisherie. The company said that some of the products may not have been properly cooked and have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum.

Product Liability – Defective Car : Nissan recalls two of his Infinity Sedan because they can stall while in motion

Nissan just recalled more than 161,000 defective cars. The M35 and M45 sedans of model years 2006 to 2010 could have accelerator pedal sensors that deteriorate. The sensor could send incorrect signals to the engine, causing it to stall while the vehicle comes to a stop or is idling, Nissan said.

Product Liability – Defective Car: Doors in some Mazda6 sedans could open while the cars are in motion

Mazda just recalled 161,400 defective cars in the US because loose screws can cause the side doors to come open while the car is being driven. All Mazda6 produced during 2009 to 2013 at a plant in Flat Rock Michigan are affected. Mazda will apply a thread-locking adhesive to the screws and re-tighten them free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by October 18

Product Liability – Defective Car: another car recall related to defective brake booster for BMW

76,000 defective cars are being recalled by BMW. According to BMW the oil supply for the vacuum pump that operates the brake booster used for power assist can be “interrupted”. The brakes will still function, but the driver will have to press much harder on the brake pedal. That means stopping distances could be greater.

Cars affected are the 2012-14 320i and 328i, and the 320i and 328i xDrive Sedan; the 2013-14 328i xDrive Sports Wagon; the 2012-13 528i and 528i xDrive Sedan; the 2013-14 X1 sDrive28i and X1 xDrive28i; the 2013-14 X3 xDrive28i and 2012-14 Z4 sDrive 2.8i

BMW has been experimenting issues with brake booster since 2010 with a total of 306,000 defective vehicle recalled since that year for that particular defect.
