Remembering September 11, 2001: Twenty-Five Years Later
Twenty-five years have passed since the attacks of September 11, 2001, but the loss experienced on that day remains deeply felt throughout New York City and across the nation.
Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were taken in New York, at the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93. We honor their families, friends, colleagues, and communities, whose lives were forever changed.
We also remember the extraordinary courage demonstrated by firefighters, police officers, emergency medical personnel, construction workers, volunteers, and countless others who responded without hesitation. In the face of unimaginable danger, they came forward to help strangers, rescue the injured, search for the missing, and support a city in mourning.
The consequences of September 11 did not end when the recovery effort concluded. Thousands of survivors, first responders, recovery workers, residents, students, and people who worked in Lower Manhattan continue to live with serious illnesses connected to their exposure to toxic substances following the attacks. We honor them, as well as those who have since lost their lives to 9/11-related illnesses.
For New Yorkers, September 11 is part of our shared history. It is remembered not only through ceremonies and memorials, but also through the personal stories of those who were lost, those who survived, and those who stepped forward to help.
On this solemn anniversary, Gair, Gair, Conason, Rubinowitz, Bloom, Hershenhorn, Steigman & Mackauf joins New Yorkers and people throughout the country in remembering the lives lost, honoring the sacrifices made, and recognizing the strength and resilience shown in the years that followed.
We will never forget.
