Another pedestrian was killed in a car accident in New York. A 74 year old woman was in a crosswalk on E. 141st street in South Bronx when she was hit by an SUV heading South on Beekman Street. She suffered a severe head injury and died at the hospital.

After striking the pedestrian, the SUV jumped the curb and ran into a building. The driver, a 47 year old woman and her passenger, an 8 year old girl suffered minor injuries.

The attacker used the leg rest of a wheel chair to beat the victim to death according to the police.A dispute over the curtain between their beds sparked the attack. The two men who were sharing the same room since July never got along according to residents.

After too many pedestrians suffered personal injury or wrongful death in traffic accidents on Fourth Ave in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, New York City proposed to trim traffic lanes to slow speeding drivers. This proposal was rejected by the Brooklyn Community Board 10. According to the Brooklyn Daily, some board members said they wanted the avenue to keep its current format, even if it endangers residents walking in the neighborhood.
A previous study for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the six-mile thoroughfare was the third most dangerous road in Brooklyn, tied with Avenue U and Eastern Parkway. The study shows that 4 pedestrians were killed on the strip between 2008 and 2010, mostly elderly and children. This year, two pedestrians have been killed at this location.

Jose Torres, 57, died yesterday after being struck by a tow truck in a Crosswalk at East 181st Street and Southern Boulevard in the Bronx, New York. The police are still investigating the reason for the accident. Read more in the New York Daily News

Earlier this week on Wednesday afternoon 12 year old Samuel Cohen-Eckstein was struck by a van as he ran across a Brooklyn street in New York to chase after a soccer ball. The boy who suffered serious injury was rushed to the hospital where he died. Read more in The New York Daily News

1 person died and 11 suffered serious personal injury and were hospitalized with two having to receive liver transplants following multiple non viral Acute Hepatitis cases in Hawaii. Out of a total of 29 cases, 24 were linked to a dietary supplement product labeled as OxyElite Pro.

The CDC is looking at other cases of liver injury nationwide that may be related.

A pedestrian died after he was hit by a car driven by a drunk off duty cop last Friday early in the morning on Richmond Terrace near Simonson Ave. in Mariners Harbor in Staten Island, New York.

William Hemphill, 51, a union operating engineer was crossing the road to go to work at the Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company shipping office, when the car driven by NYPD off duty cop Joseph McClean hit him so hard that he landed a block away. Paramedics rushed Hemphill to a Staten Island hospital, where he died.

NYPD cop Joseph McClean was charged with DWI.

A 3 year old girl who broke free from her grandmother while crossing the street was struck by a car and died on her way to the hospital. The accident happened as they were crossing Main Street at Cherry Ave in Flushing, Queens, New York.

It is very difficult for motorists to see young children if they run in front of their car. Parents, grandparents and caregivers should always make sure to safely hold the hand of young children when crossing the street or walking near a road. They should not let them run ahead. Additionally if young children are not strapped in a pushchair, the use of a rein may be a good idea, especially in the city where there is so much traffic.

At least 19 children under the watch of the ACS died because the agency ignored recommendations to improve its practices according to a report from an investigative grand jury impaneled in Brooklyn after 4-year-old Marchella Brett-Pierce’s 18-pound body was found beaten, drugged and starved to death by her mother in Sept. 2010.
