A 31 year old mother of two children who also was six month pregnant of a third one was struck by a car yesterday night on Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island. NYC.  Shannon Lies had just finished her shift at Mike’s Place Diner  yesterday night and was crossing Hylan Boulevard to catch a bus when she was hit by a car. The driver drove for a block before to return to the scene of the accident where the young mother was lying unconscious on the ground. She suffered severe head trauma and was taken to the hospital where she was declared dead.

4 hours earlier, 61 year old Steven Turetsky was crossing Hylan Boulevard at the intersection of Bay Street when he was also fatally hit by a car.

A 21 year old woman died and  her 22 year old friend was  seriously injured in a bicycle accident in New York City.  The two women were riding their bicycles on Hylan Blvd. in Great Kills yesterday afternoon around 4:30 pm when they were struck by a boat trailer that had slipped off  the truck that was towing it. The two women were transported to the hospital.  One of them died, the other one is expected to survive.  The driver stayed at the scene of the accident. Allegedly the trailer hinge had been modified. The driver hasn’t been charged.  Read more in the New York Daily News

26 year old Jessica Labetti was driving on Four Corner Rd in Long Island New York when she crashed into a stone wall after being distracted by her 88 year old grandmother who suffers from dementia. As Labetti was driving, her grandmother, who was sitting in the back seat suddenly pulled her hair. Labetti jolted, lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a wall. The granddaughter  suffered minor injuries. Her grandmother was transported to the hospital in critical condition where she later died. Labetti was driving with a suspended licensed and was charged and arrested by the police. Read more in the NY Daily News

A 16 year football player from Curtis High School in Long Island, NYC, died after he collapsed on the field during practice. Miles Kirkland-Thomas was a 6.2 feet and 321 pounds defensive tackle. He showed up late at practice and was ordered to do wind springs. He was stopped by coaches after completing two springs. Miles collapsed as he was talking to one of his coaches. The temperature was around 80 degrees with high humidity.

His father told the media that because Monday was a Holiday, there was no bus service to go to practice and because Miles was running late he probably ran up a steep hill that leads to the school. The Department of Education is investigating the death of the young man. More will be known after the autopsy Today.
