Drunk driver critically injure 3 pedestrians in New York City

3 pedestrians are in critical condition after a drunk driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into them in Jackson Heights, Queens, NYC.

The accident occurred around 4:20 am early Saturday morning at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and 86th Street. A video surveillance shows the 3 young men aged 25, 28 and 32, chatting at the corner of the intersection of the two streets when suddenly a SUV traveling at a high rate of speed lost control of his vehicle as he was trying to pass another car and slammed into the pedestrians.

The 23 year old driver of the SUV was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with DWI.

The 3 pedestrians were rushed to the hospital where one is still listed in critical condtion and 2 in serious but stable condition. The driver was also injured in the crash.

Northern Boulevard has a bad reputation and has been nicknamed the “New Boulevard of Death” with Queens Boulevard being the one originally nicknamed “Boulevard of  Death”.

The streets of New York City were particularly bloody this week-end:

  • On Friday night, also in Queens, two young men died after crashing their ATVs into a tractor trailer truck. Apparently they were chased by two police officers who have been put on restricted duty (see NY Post
  • The same night also in Queens, a 63 year old man was critically injured  by a hit and run driver  (see ABC News)
  • An e-scooter was fatally struck by a car in Brooklyn
  • A 4 year old boy suffering from autism returning from his brother’s funeral was killed by a car (see NY Post)
