A wall collapse at a construction site on Jefferson Street near Central Avenue in Bushwick has left two families facing unimaginable hardship.

One 47-year-old worker lost his life. A 40-year-old worker was critically injured when rubble from a neighboring building’s foundation collapsed into a trench where the men were performing debris removal as part of foundation work. The Department of Buildings has issued a full stop-work order and partial vacate orders while the site is stabilized.

While the criminal or regulatory investigations move forward, the legal rights of both families must be protected immediately.

MTA BX21 busA disturbing incident unfolded in Borough Park when an on-duty Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus driver was arrested after allegedly punching a 16-year-old boy riding a bicycle near Bay Parkway and E. 2nd Street in Brooklyn.

According to reports, the driver of a B6 bus became involved in an argument with the teenager, who was either blocking the bus, refusing to move, or riding alongside it while holding onto the vehicle. Police allege the driver exited the bus and punched the teen multiple times in the face. The boy was transported to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition, possibly with a broken nose. The driver was charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment.

While the criminal case will proceed in Brooklyn Criminal Court, the teenager’s parents also have important civil legal rights.

The airplane crashed in the Hudson River near the Beacon-Newburgh bridgeA single-engine Cessna 172 that departed from Long Island MacArthur Airport plunged into the icy Hudson River Monday night after reportedly losing power while attempting an emergency landing near New York Stewart International Airport.

According to federal authorities, the aircraft went down around 8 p.m. near the southbound side of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. The pilot and passenger survived the impact, escaped the submerged plane, and swam through frigid, ice-filled waters to shore. Both were transported to local hospitals and are expected to recover.

The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Tiffany Howell InstagramA fatal wrong-way crash on the Taconic State Parkway in Mount Pleasant has led to the arrest of an off-duty NYPD sergeant on aggravated vehicular homicide charges. According to published reports, Sgt. Tiffany Howell was allegedly driving south in the northbound lanes at approximately 11:40 p.m. when her 2021 Infiniti struck a 2024 Toyota operated by 61-year-old Manuel Boitel.

Investigators determined that Howell’s blood alcohol content was allegedly .26 — more than three times New York’s legal limit of .08. She was arraigned in Westchester Supreme Court and released on $500,000 bond.

Boitel, who was returning home from work as a Manhattan doorman, was transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

A Long Island child therapist has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison after admitting to collecting and distributing some of the most disturbing forms of child sexual abuse material imaginable.

According to federal prosecutors, Renee “Rina” Hoberman, a licensed mental health counselor based in Plainview and working with children from infancy through age 17, used encrypted applications to upload and trade graphic videos depicting the sexual abuse of infants. Authorities stated that her online activity triggered multiple reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, ultimately leading to a federal investigation.

Homeland Security agents arrested Hoberman in October 2024. During a search of her home, investigators found additional illegal material and evidence of distribution across messaging platforms, including Telegram and Kik. She later pleaded guilty to collecting and distributing violent child sexual abuse material and surrendered her professional license.

After striking the median and coming to rest perpendicular to traffic, Asitimbay’s vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer. He was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, where he later died from catastrophic injuries.
