A one year old boy died and six people were injured including two severely in a NYC fire accident yesterday morning morning. The fire started in a three bedroom apartment located on the 13th floor of a building located on Mother Gaston Blvd in Brooklyn NYC. Seven people were living in the apartment. Firemen rescued the bay boy but he died an hour later at the hospital. two other people are still fighting for their life and 4 others were injured but expected to survive. They were all transported to a nearby hospital. Read more in Brownsville Patch

Another fire broke at a new wing of the NYU Langone Hospital in Midtown Manhattan. Nobody was injured as the building was still under construction. Black smoke and massive flames caused by tar burning erupted from the rooftop. The smoke invaded the entire Kips Bay neighborhood. Read more in the NY Daily News

Yesterday 8 people including two firefighters were injured in a fire that erupted in a Bronx two-story houses (see NY Daily News). As the weather is getting colder in the City the number of residential fires has been increasing these last days.

161 Avenue in Howard Beach Queens, NYC is a quite residential street
3 people were injured in a car accident in New York City on Friday. A 47 year old woman who tried to avoid a collision with another car crashed her SUV into the wall of a Howard Beach House in Queens. A little girl was in the car with her. Both suffered minor personal injury and were treated at the scene of the accident.

A man living in the house was seriously injured by the impact and the debris and was transported to the hospital. He suffered head and shoulder injuries.  The SUV crashed into the wall of the house and went inside it. A big portion of the garage and basement of the house were completely destroyed during the accident.

A colonoscopy is a screening and diagnostic tool used by gastroenterologists to evaluate the inside of the colon and identify ulcers, colon polyps, tumors, and areas of inflammation or bleeding. Performed under a mild form of anesthesia, a thin, flexible tube is used to examine the inner lining of the large intestine, i.e. the rectum and colon. The scope is inserted into the anus, through the rectum and then passed through the entire large intestine to the cecum. Passage of the colonoscope through the intestine is incredibly important, as improper handling of the scope could cause injury to not only the bowel itself, but vital organs outside the bowel including the spleen.

A hit and run livery cab driver who injured an 11 year old boy in a car accident was recently found by investigators in Germany. 37 year old Djanfarou Tough struck a young pedestrian in the Bronx in 2013. He not only fled the scene of the accident but also the country. He first flew from JFK to Africa and was recently found in Germany. Brought back to the Bronx Supreme Court, the man was arraigned on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The young boy hasn’t fully recovered from his injuries but at least he will get justice. Read more in the NY Daily News

A 59 year old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a car in New York City. The accident took place on Sunday around 5.20 pm. The pedestrian was crossing Ralph Ave at the intersection of Macon Street when a car hit him. The driver didn’t stop. The pedestrian was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The police are still looking for the car which may possibly be a red sedan. Read more in the NY Daily News

A 11 year old boy suffered critical injury in a NYC car accident. The young boy was crossing the street at the intersection of Willets Point Blvd and 148th Street in Flushing when a SUV struck him. A witness said she saw the boy flying and then falling on the ground. The boy was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Further investigation will determine the exact cause of the accident. A NYC cop was injured in a car accident involving a livery cab driver at a New York Airport. Tuesday afternoon around 1:00 pm, 30 year old Macias Rubio, a livery cab driver was looking for customers at Laguardia Aiport . As he was negotiating a fare with a potential customer, a police officer approached him. The officer put his head through the open window of Rubio’s car and started talking to him. Rubio sped off and dragged the police officer with him. After a short distance, the livery cab driver, stopped. He got out of his car and ran away. He was chased by other cops and arrested. The officer suffered several injuries in the accident. Read more in the NY Daily News

NYC MTA Subway logoOne MTA worker was seriously injured and another one died in a subway accident in NYC yesterday. The two men were working on the southbound G train track between the Fort Hamilton Parkway and Church Ave. stations in Kensington, Brooklyn. A little after midnight, a train running on the track struck them both. Emergency workers rushed to the location of the accident. One of the workers, a 53 year old man was transported to the hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries. The other worker, a 49 year old man, was also transported to the hospital. He was seriously injured but in stable condition. It is not clear why the two men were working on the track when the  subway train was in service. Read more in the NY Daily News

A construction worker suffered critical injury after he fell down an elevator shaft in NYC. The 42 year old man was an employee of Economy Elevator Inc. He was working on a construction site at 246 Johnson Ave in Brooklyn, NYC when he fell seven stories in the elevator shaft. Other workers who heard him scream came to the rescue and call the emergency medical workers. The workers was able to move his hands and his feet when the EMS put him on the stretcher. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. According to DNA Info the worker was wearing a harness when he was found on the ground. However it is not clear if it was attached to anything at the time of the accident. Read more in DNA Info 

246 Johnson Ave is located at the corner of Bushwick Place near the Montrose L stop. In 2014 it was a one-story building that was bought by developer Moshe Silberstein. 3415 Neptune Ave street viewA baby girl died in an elevator accident in New York City on Thursday.  Her mother was also injured in the accident. She was expected to survive. Last  Thursday around 10:30 am, 21 year old Aber Al-Rabahi put her 6 month old daughter Areej Ali in her stroller and headed out of her apartment for a walk. Aber Al-Rabahi and her daughter called the elevator on the 23rd floor of of the Sea Rise, a residential building located at 3415 Neptune Avenue, in Coney Island, Brooklyn. As the elevator doors opened, the mother pushed the stroller inside and walked in without  realizing that the car was stuck 6 feet below. The mother landed on the top of her daughter on the roof of the elevator. The elevator fell down eight stories where the the mom and her daughter landed on the roof. A maintenance worker who heard the mother screaming ran to the rescue. The mother and the infant were both transported to the hospital. The infant was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The mother is expected to survive.

Neighbors told the NY Daily News that both elevators in the building were constantly having problems. On Wednesday night tenants complained that the elevator was not functioning proprely. A mechanic from Centennial Elevator Co. had arrived an hour before the accident. He was working on the elevator when the accident happened. Centennial Elevator has two open OSHA investigations . One of them is related to one of their employees who lost an arm  while repairing an elevator in New York City last May (see previous blog).

According to the Gothamist, this is the second time that someone was killed in an elevator accident at the Sea Rise Complex. In 1991, Chandler  Johnson bumped into the door of the same elevator. The door opened and Chandler fell to his death down the shaft. Since the young man died, there were 147 elevator violations in the building.
