accident sceneA 26 year old pedestrian suffered critical injury after being struck by a car in Long Island City, NYC,  on Tuesday night.  The man was hit by a dark-colored SUV at the corner of 35th Street and 46th Avenue. The SUV driver didn’t stop, leaving behind him a man critically injured. A woman who was working in a nearby warehouse heard the accident and ran out in the street. She told the Daily News that the victim was trying to get up but he couldn’t. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The police are still looking for the driver. A little earlier in the afternoon, a 15 year old boy was struck by a car at the intersection of Hylan Boulevard and New Dorp Lane in Staten Island. the pedestrian was transported to the hospital with shoulder pain. The driver, a 68 year old man, stayed at the scene of the accident and wasn’t charged. According to the police the teen was walking outside of a crosswalk at the time of the accident. A cyclist died from his injury after he was struck by a car in New York City. The accident occurred on November 17 around 2:40 pm. 84 year old Yau-Teg Fung, of Queens was riding his bike on Albertson Street near Fleet Street when he collided with a car driven by an 80 year old woman. He suffered a massive head injury after being thrown off his bike. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries after 10 days of hospitalization. The police told the NY Daily News that the driver had stopped at a stop sign and she was in the intersection when the cyclist hit her rear door. No criminal charges were filed.

The hit and run driver who critically injured a pedestrian in Queens, NYC on Thanksgiving Day was arrested by the police. 52 year old Carmine Minichino of Queens was charged with driving while intoxicated with a suspended licence and leaving the scene of an accident. Last Thursday Minichino struck 71 year old Paul Sim who was crossing the road at the intersection of Murray Street and 17th Road in Flushing Queens. Sim was coming out of a Thanksgiving dinner with other relatives and friends when the accident happened. Minichino hit him and continued to drive, dragging him as far as 40 feet according to the police. Sim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He is expected to survive. The police spotted Minichino’s car abandoned down the block from the accident. He soon appeared with the keys in his hands and was arrested.  Read more on New York CBS website

accident sceneA mother and two children as well as a family sitting in their leaving room almost died in two successive car crashes committed by the same car driver. A 35 year old woman driving a yellow mustang jumped the curb Friday afternoon in Queens hitting two boys, 2 and 6 year old. The children were walking on a sidewalk with their mother near the intersection of 170th Street and Jamaica Ave in Jamaica Hills, Queens, NYC. The video below shows that the mother was able to quickly grab the kids and save them from being hit harder by the car. The crazy female driver never stopped. She just sped off  and kept driving. She lost control of her vehicle a second time on 172nd Street and crashed into a house. The front of the car landed in the living room next to a sofa where a pregnant woman was siting with the rest of her family, an elderly woman, the father and two other children. The father, Mohammed Emran couldn’t believe what just happened. He was in shock. His whole family could have died. The mustang driver tried to leave again after she hit the house but a neighbor and his son who saw the accident held her down and called the police. They told CBS News that the woman seemed intoxicated. She was taken to the hospital for toxicology exams.

At the time of the accident, Mr. Frosh was in a city garage in Maspeth. He was making adjustments to his street sweeper truck when he was fatally hit by another street sweeper. He suffered excruciating pain for 2 to 3 minutes before succumbing to his injuries.
His wife, Bina Frosch, sued the City of New York for the negligence and carelessness of the worker driving the sweeper truck.

3 people died and 16 suffered injury in a bus accident that occurred in Queens, NYC, last week. Around 6:00 am last Monday, 49-year-old Raymond Mong was driving an empty charter bus owned by the Dahlia tour company when he ran a red light and crashed into a MTA bus in Flushing. The crash occurred at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Main Street.  Footage from a security camera shows the Dahlia bus recklessly speeding through the intersection and crashing into the MTA bus which was making a right turn from Main street onto Northern Boulevard.

The bus driver, Raymond Mong, died in the accident as well as a pedestrian (68 year old Henry Wdowiak) and a MTA bus rider (55 year old Gregory Liljefors). Among the 16 other people who were injured in the accident, five of them were still hospitalized with 3 of them in critical condition.  According to the most recent results of the investigation,  Mong drove through the intersection at a speed of 58 mph. The maximum speed limit in the city is 25 mph.

MTA_New_York_City_Bus_Orion_VII_Next_Generation_2009-thumb1A man suffered critical injury in a bus accident in New York City yesterday. The 31 year old man was delivering Indian food on his moped when he was struck by a MTA bus. Both the moped and the bus were riding on Shea Road in Queens.  When they arrived at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue, the bus driver made a right turn onto Roosevelt. The moped collided with the right rear of the bus and was crushed under the undercarriage of the bus. The delivery man suffered critical injury including head and body trauma. He was rushed to the hospital. He is expected to survive.  The bus was empty at the time of the accident. The driver had finished his service and was on his way to the bus depot. Read more in the NY Daily News

Another MTA bus accident occurred in Queens less than two weeks ago. A  bus driver was crushed by his own bus as it rolled backward. Kaleb Oliver, the driver needed a bathroom break at the end of a shuttle service. He stopped his bus on Metropolitan Ave near the All Saints Cemetery in Ridgewood. After he stepped out of the bus, the vehicle started to roll backwards. The bus driver started to run after the bus and attempted to get into it from the passenger side. He got crushed between the bus and a pole. He suffered critical injury.  Another bus driver,  Anibal Rivera, who was standing at the scene of the accident after his own shift also ran after the bus. He was able to get in by the drivers side and to pull the emergency break an action that probably saved the life of his colleague. Oliver was rushed to the hospital with a punctured lung and serious face injuries. He had 9 years of service as a MTA bus driver. It is the second time this summer that a MTA Bus rolled backwards causing injury. Read more in the New York Post

A FDNY truck crashed into two cars in New York City on Saturday injuring 7 people including a child.  The accident occurred in Queens at the intersection of Booth Memorial Ave and Kissena Blvd. The fire truck was on its way to a fire in Flushing and its sirens were on.  The fire truck hit a Lexus SUV. The Lexus SUV then ricocheted into a Mercedes SUV.  The Mercedes flipped over on its side. A total of 10 people were injured in the firetruck crash. 7 of them were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Among them a child and an adult were critically injured. 3 other people including a firefighter were treated for minor injuries at the scene of the accident.

According to a study, there are around 30,000 firetruck crashes every year in the U.S. Firetruck crashes are also the second leading cause of death of on-duty firefighters. In New York City alone, there are between 20 and 40 crashes every month.

accident scene5 people were injured after a speeding driver crashed into a pole in Queens, NYC, early Saturday.  The 26-year-old driver of a white Chevrolet Sonic was speeding on 31st Ave in Elmhurst, Queens, when he lost control of his vehicle. He crashed into a traffic light pole located in front of a CVS at the intersection of 54th Street. The impact was so violent that the car was totally destroyed. Luckily the police arrived quickly at the scene of the accident. They were able to pull  the driver and the passengers out of the vehicle before it caught fire.In addition to the driver, there were 4 other occupants  in the car. A 19 year old boy was sitting in the front passenger seat. A 17 year old girl and an 18 year old girl were sitting in the back with a 20-year-old man.  The driver was in critical condition. All the passengers were also seriously injured but in stable condition. All 5 were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police believe that not only speed but also alcohol was a factor in the accident. An NYPD officer was injured after being dragged by a car 200 feet. The accident occurred in Queens, NYC, Saturday around 2:00 am. The driver of a Honda blew a red light at the intersection of Guy Brewer and N. Conduit Boulevards in Jamaica. A police officer then approached the car and asked the driver to turn off his car. Instead, the driver, who according to the officer, was in his twenties, sped off, dragging the officer with him over 200 feet. The officer had his arm stuck in the seat belt. He was able to get off and fell away from the car. The car was found abandoned a few blocks away. The police are still looking for the driver. Read more in the NY Daily News
