3 pedestrians suffered personal injury after being hit by a car in New York. The pedestrians were walking on the Upper East Side of Manhattan when a car plowed into them. The driver identified as 27 year old Cameron Cohello fled the scene of the accident, striking another car. He continued to drive toward the Queensboro Bridge. He abandoned his car near the bridge. He then tried to force a cab driver out of his car to steel his vehicle. A traffic agent ran to the rescue of the taxi driver. As the traffic agent was trying to grab him, Cohello punched him in the chest. Cohello was finally arrested by the police and sent to the hospital for psychological evaluation. He was charged with felony, assault and attempted robbery.

MTAAfter a pedestrian died in a New York City bus accident, officials announced that the driver was arrested under the city’s Right of Way Law. The fatal bus accident happened a week ago in Brooklyn, NYC.

62 year old Eleanora Shulkina was crossing East 17th Street near Avenue Z. The woman was in the crosswalk when she was hit by a MTA bus making a left turn on Avenue Z. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. She didn’t survive her injuries and died shortly after.

The bus driver, 52 year old Wayne Alman, stayed at the scene of the accident. He wasn’t immediately charged. However yesterday officials announced that they had arrested the bus driver. He is charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian, a misdemeanor under the newly signed Right of Way Law.

The police are looking for a hit and run driver who killed a teen pedestrian Tuesday night in Queens, NYC.  The accident happened on Northern Blvd near Junction Blvd. 17 year old Jaremello Ovidio was crossing the road when he was hit by the car. The driver didn’t stop. The teen was left dying in the street. He was walking home from a funeral when he was hit by the car. The police are looking for a black Toyota Camry that was driving westbound on Northern Blvd around 11:00 pm on Tuesday night.

So far this year there were 38,000 hit and run accidents in New York City. 31 people died in these accidents and 4000 suffered personal injury.

Lenox HillHospital negligence and abuse is not only related to patient care, it can also be related to how well the hospital protects the identity of its patients. Yesterday, a former employee of the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and his wife appeared in front of the Manhattan Supreme Court because they allegedly stole the personal information of more than 80 patients and use their credit cards to charge a total of $300,000 fraudulent charges at Saks Fifth Ave in Manhattan. They tried to charge over $1 million according to prosecutors. Kyle Steed and his wife pleaded not guilty to a 193-count indictment that included, grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, identity theft and possession of stolen property charges in a scheme that targeted elderly people. An erratic truck driver who failed to yield to Mayor de Blasio was pulled over by the mayor’s security detail after he was spotted running a red light and driving the wrong way in Brooklyn, NYC, yesterday. After he was pulled over, the detail discovered that the truck driver who’s name is Franky Matarrese, had no license to drive such a large vehicle and that he also had no registration on the truck. Matarrarsse was slapped with 13 violations.  Read more in the NY Daily News

The number of truck accidents in New York City has been on the rise over the last 3 years. Recent statistics from the NYPD show that last September there were 713 truck accidents in the city compared to 557 in September 2013 and 672 in September 2014. During most of the months of 2015 the monthly number of truck accidents in NYC was above 700, a number never reached in 2013 and only twice in 2014.

One man died and another one was critically injured in car accident in Queens, New York City. Monday early morning, 30 year old Jorge Bermudez was driving his car on Laurel Hill Blvd with a passenger at his side. As he was near 49th street just under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in Maspeth, he lost control of the vehicle. The car slammed into a median and both the driver and the passenger got pinned inside. Witnesses reported that the crash was very loud. The victims were rushed to the hospital where Bermudez died. Read more in the NY Daily News

Daniel+Pollack-1In a recent article about the media coverage of child fatalities when a human service agency is involved, Daniel Pollack, a professor at Yeshiva University’s School of Social Work in New York City questions the fairness of the press. After reviewing many articles from previous years related to these type of cases, Professor Pollack is questioning the ethics and the integrity of  some journalists. He concludes that “without a fair press we risk inadvertently prejudicing the justice system later on. The guilty may go free, and the innocent may suffer undeserving penalties or miss their opportunity for compensation”.

NicodemusOne pedestrian died and two others where injured yesterday night in Brooklyn, NYC, after an unlicensed driver lost control of his vehicle and jumped the curb. Yesterday around 5:30 pm, 30 year old Victoria Nicodemus was walking with her boyfriend on a sidewalk of Fulton Street near South Portland Street in Fort Green when a SUV jumped the curb and hit the two of them as well as a 75 year old female pedestrian. Victoria died and the two others suffered personal injury.

Marlon Sewell, the driver, didn’t realize that there was a bus stop nearby and that the bus in front of him was about to stop. He swerved to avoid it and jumped the curb killing one and injuring two. He was arrested by the police and was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and  operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Read more in the Gothamist

Later on, disturbing footage of a surveillance video was released showing a woman that happened to be steps away from the crash looking at the victim and then continuing to walk down the street eating her pizza, unfazed after the crash.
