schoolbus11 people were injured in a bus accident last Tuesday in Queens, NYC. The school bus was transporting several students and a matron. The bus was driving on 167th Ave near 73rd Street in Fresh Meadows when it collided with a car. After the impact, the bus careened off the road and crashed into a light pole. 11 people were injured and transported to nearby hospitals to be treated.  Most people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries except for two people who suffered serious injuries. The bus was operated by Lorinda Enterprises which belongs to the Logan Bus Company.

A female pedestrian was critically injured after being hit by a school bus in New York City. The bus accident happened Monday morning around 9:20 am in Queens. The 32 year old woman was crossing Grand Ave near 74th street when she was struck by a yellow school bus. No children were on board. The woman suffered head trauma and a broken shoulder. She was transported to the hospital where she was listed in critical condition.  There is no cross walk at the intersection of 74th Street and Grand Ave, making it a dangerous intersection for pedestrians.

A pedestrian died after being hit by a school bus Friday evening in Brooklyn, NYC.  The bus accident happened on Atlantic Avenue near Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights. The bus driver was driving East on Atlantic Ave when he swerved to avoid another car. He jumped the curb and fatally hit a 50 year old woman. During the accident the bus also hit two light poles, a gas station and multiple parked cars. The police are investigating the cause of the accident.

School bus accident4 children and 3 adults were injured in an accident involving a school bus and a passenger car. The accident happened at the dangerous intersection of First Street and Fourth Ave in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC last Friday around 3pm. The school bus was traveling northbound on Fourth Ave and was trying to make a left turn onto First Street when a Mustang struck it. The impact was so strong that the bus flipped on its side. The passengers, 4 children and 2 adults as well as the driver of the mustang were all transported to the hospital.

Located one block away from a school, the intersection of First Street and Fourth Ave is both dangerous for drivers and for pedestrians. On the Vision Zero map two people complained about poor visibility at this intersection.  One of them expressed concern about the fact that many school buses were turning left onto First Street from Fourth Ave with almost no visibility. The other one called the intersection chaotic. Double parking as well as a nearby car wash are also  adding to the chaos according to the comments.

MTAAfter a pedestrian died in a New York City bus accident, officials announced that the driver was arrested under the city’s Right of Way Law. The fatal bus accident happened a week ago in Brooklyn, NYC.

62 year old Eleanora Shulkina was crossing East 17th Street near Avenue Z. The woman was in the crosswalk when she was hit by a MTA bus making a left turn on Avenue Z. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. She didn’t survive her injuries and died shortly after.

The bus driver, 52 year old Wayne Alman, stayed at the scene of the accident. He wasn’t immediately charged. However yesterday officials announced that they had arrested the bus driver. He is charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian, a misdemeanor under the newly signed Right of Way Law.

Last Thursday an 84 year old woman was killed in a bus accident in Queens, NYC, and the driver just sped away. Earlier during the week another victim was killed by a hit and run bus driver in New York City (see previous blog). This particular accident happened at the busy intersection of Main Street and Kissena Boulevard in Flushing around 8:30 pm. 84 year old Aglaia Goularis was crossing the street when a white Skyliner charter bus that was on its way to Foxwoods Casino struck her. She suffered severe body trauma and was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The driver didn’t stop but he was later identified by the police. Read more in the New York Post.

An elderly pedestrian died in a bus accident in New York City. The 70 year old woman was crossing the street at the intersection of Sackman Street and Fulton Street around 6:15 am yeserday morning when she was struck by a MTA bus turning from Sackman Street onto Fulton Street.  The bus kept going and the victim was left on the road “cut in half” according to Ramon Garcia, a witness who tried to help her. She died at the scene of the accident.  The witness said the bus driver stopped briefly at the stop sign before making the turn and hit the woman who was using a walker.

Though the driver left the scene and may have violated the Right of Way Law, police “did not immediately suspect criminality.” The Right of Way Law makes it a misdemeanor for a driver to injure or kill someone who is walking or biking with the right of way. Read more in Street Blog

12 people suffered minor injuries after a bus crashed into a building in New York City. The accident was caused by a drug dealer who was caught by the police with 64 bags of crack cocaine in his car.  Yesterday night around 9:30 pm the police pulled over 24 year old Chevron Parchement because he was not wearing a seat belt. The young man sped away and the police chased him. He ran  a red light and was T-boned by a bus which was traveling east on S. Conduit Road in Springfield Gardens, Queens, NYC. The impact of the collision was so strong that the bus swerved off the road , slammed into two parked cars and finally crashed into the side of a two-story house in which the owner was celebrating his birthday. Thankfully no one inside the house was injured. 12 bus passengers suffered minor personal injury and were taken to the hospital to be treated. A motorcyclist was critically injured and 10 other people suffered minor injury after a bus collided with a car in New York City last Wednesday. The accident happened at the intersection of Woodhaven Boulevard and 81st Road in Woodhaven, Queens. The bus that was transporting special needs adults collided with a Nissan Sedan. The impact was so hard that the bus rocked and almost tipped while the front of the Nissan sustained severe damage trapping the driver. Good Samaritans ran to him and tried to get him out of the car by breaking the windows. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Read more in the NY Daily News

There were 19,061 motor vehicle accidents in New York City in July 2015 compared to 19,428 the previous month. During the same month in 2014 and 2013 there were respectively 17,361 and 17,548 crashes.  For the last 3 months the number of  accidents was unusually high and stayed above 19,000. So far since the beginning of the year there were 123,697 traffic accidents in NYC compared to respectively 118,195 and 117,022 for the same period of 2014 and 2013.

4,776 people suffered personal injury in motor vehicle accidents in NYC in July compared to 4,795 the previous month and respectively 4,591 and 5,077 for July 2014 and July 2013. Even though the number of motor vehicle accidents was very high in the month of July the number of people injured in these accidents was lower in July 2015 than in July 2013 and almost the same as in July 2014.

The number of motorists injured in a vehicle accident in July 2015 was unusually high and above 2,000 for the first time over the last 3 years under review.
