Opiod deaths in constructionConstruction workers have one of the highest risk of suffering from personal injury during their activity. According to the National Safety Council, more than 70,000 construction workers are injured every year in the US with back injuries and hand injuries being the most common. Nearly all construction workers will suffer at least one occupation related injury during their lifetime. Researchers also found that a construction worker that has a career longer than 45 years has a 75% risk of suffering a disabling injury.

Therefore it is not surprising that construction workers are being prescribed a lot of opioids to treat the pain caused by these injuries.

Usually workers receive compensation during the time that they are injured but it is often not enough to make up for lost pay. Therefore many injured construction workers are using opioids to get back to work faster.

Among all the States in the US, New York State has the highest rate of mothers injured while giving birth.  Many of these injuries are the direct result of hospital negligence and medical malpractice. A recent investigation by USA Today shows that not only in New York but all over America negligent medical workers skip basic safety practices that have proven to be life savers for mothers.

Weighing blood pads to track dangerous hemorrhages as well as controlling blood pressure and if necessary immediately providing medication to prevent strokes are basic procedures that protect a mother about to give birth. However in the US many nurses, doctors and hospitals continue to ignore them. As a result while in most developed countries the rate of maternal deaths and injuries dropped drastically over the last decades, it rose sharply in the US.

Excepted for California where safe practices have been implemented, hospitals in other Sates continue to ignore basic safety practices.  As a result, every day in the US, 2 mothers die from complications related to delivery. Many of them bleed to death because doctors and nurses don’t bother to quantify blood losses. Many others die from stroke because the hospital staff didn’t track their blood pressure or didn’t provide blood pressure medication on time. Most of these deaths are preventable. Experts estimate that 93% of the deaths related to bleeding could be avoided by quantifying blood loss and 60% of the deaths related to blood pressure disorder could be prevented simply by proprely monitoring blood pressure.

LightningTwo men suffered personal injury in New York City after they got hit by a lightning strike. The two men were playing soccer in Flushing Meadows Park, near the Queens Zoo on Tuesday night.  The storm broke around 7:30 pm as the 30 and 42 year old men were playing a six-on-six pick-up soccer game.

Nearby the NYPD was holding an event at the park called “National Night Out” and as the storm arrived police were telling people attending the event to clear the area. Andrew Graneros an employee with Everything Entertainment which provided inflatable rides and tents for the event was taking down the rides with his coworker when lightning hit the soccer field. He heard the thunder and immediately looked at the field. The goalie and another player next to him were laying on the ground  He ran to the NYPD event to ask for help. There were a bunch of cops and ambulances around so the response was extremely fast.

The two victims were rushed to the hospital. So far,both victims survived. However the youngest one suffered life threatening injuries and he is still fighting to stay alive.

finger chicken is the most dangerous food in the US
Among all food products offered to American consumers, chicken products  are the most dangerous. They have the highest risk to be contaminated with salmonella or other pathogens and to cause illnesses to consumers according to a recently released study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Researchers at the CDC analyzed 5,760 reports of foodborne disease outbreaks that occurred between 2009 and 2015. These outbreaks resulted in 100,939 illnesses, 5,699 hospitalizations, and 145 deaths.

While fish recorded the highest number of contamination followed by dairy products and chicken, chicken was responsible for the most illnesses related to contamination. During the period under review, 3,144 consumers got ill after eating chicken, 2,670 after eating pork and 2,572 after eating seeded vegetables.

MontefioreThe 3 emergency units at Montefiore Hospital in New York are so overcrowded and unruly that it endangered patients and staffers.

Patients have to wait for hours to be treated and staffers are regularly attacked by psych patients. According to a nurse working there who was recently interviewed by the New York Daily News, the ER units at Montefiore look like a refugee camp in a war zone.

Last week, Ritchie Torres, a City Councilman sent a letter to the Department of Investigation to ask for an immediate probe.

Our client, Ruthie Ann Miles returned to the stage last Friday performing the starring role of lady Thiang in the West End production of the King and I in London. We are joining Ruthie Ann Miles fans to express our admiration for her strength and her courage.

Our managing partner, Ben Rubinowitz who represents the family, told the New York Post “It’s just a testament to the courage, strength and bravery of both of them, Jonathan and Ruthie Ann.” “She really is taking it a day at a time, trying to get by.”

On March 5th, Ruthie Ann Miles and her young daughter Abigail were struck by a reckless driver while crossing a street in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Abigail was killed in the accident. Ruthie Ann Miles who was 39 weeks pregnant at the time of the accident was critically injured. A few weeks after the accident the actress also tragically lost her unborn child  following the injuries suffered in the crash.

B82 in Flatlands AveThankfully nobody was injured in a bus accident that occurred in Brooklyn, NYC,  early Sunday morning. The bus was driven by 24 year old Lenny Lachman who was drunk behind the wheel. Around 1:30 am, the nine passengers on board of the B82 bus  started to panic after Lachman drove erratically on Flatlands Ave and hit something near 46th Street. They called 911 and the police came to their rescue and stopped the bus. They arrested the driver. He was charged with reckless driving and three counts of DWI. He was arraigned Sunday night in Brooklyn criminal court and was granted supervised release by Judge Ellen Edwards. Lachman who started to work as a MTA driver in May 2017 was immediately removed from service without pay.

location of the bike accidentA motorcyclist was seriously injured and his passenger died after they collided with a car in New York City on Sunday night.

The accident occurred in Howard Beach, Queens, around 9:00 pm. The 28 old driver and a 33 year old passenger were riding their motorcycle on 162nd Street. As they were crossing the intersection of 162nd Street and Cross Bay Boulevard they collided with a car making a left turn from Cross Bay Boulevard onto 162nd Street.

The car was driven by a 19 year old woman who was transporting two passengers.
